Grandparents - your role through the eyes of children.

What do you view is your role as a grandparent?
When my children were young, my mother and my mother-inlaw were rocks.  They had the children while I worked, played, cleaned - whatever and whenever.  But I look to the future - when I am a grandmother, I will still be working.  How can I help my daughter and my son in the same way my mother and mother inlaw helped me? I guess the answer is - I won't be able to.  If my daughter/son need someone to look after her children, they will have to go to day care as I will be at work.  I would love to have the children, but the mortgage will not let me stay at home.  What is your situation?
